How to Make a Cork Menu Board

Searching for the best way on how to make a cork menu board? Follow the steps for an easy and fun craft project.

  1. First: The supplies

Purchase a chalkboard of the size you want to use. Gather a large group of corks or cork board strips, enough to circle the perimeter of the chalkboard as a frame.

  2. Second: The measurements

Nail or screw two triangular hooks onto the rear side of the board at the top, then measure the distance between them with a ruler. At the location where you plan to hang the menu board, mark the same distance in pencil, showing where to insert your nails. Using a hammer, put two nails into the wall at the places you have marked.

  3. Third: The cleaning and cutting

Wipe your corks or cork board strips lightly with a damp cloth. When dry, halve your corks the long way or trim the strips (an X-Acto knife is recommended).

  4. Fourth: The gluing

Using a hot glue gun, apply glue to the flat side of every cork or strip. Glue the corks or strips along the perimeter of the chalkboard in a horizontal pattern. Hold down for a moment with steady pressure. When finished, leave everything in place to set for at least two hours.

  5. Fifth: The hanging

Match the hooks to the nails, adjusting to make sure the board is level. Grab some chalk or push pins to display the featured dishes on your cork board menu.
